How Do I Swap Stems Between Songs?

When you mix two songs on STEM.FM, each song has four stems.

That gives you eight stems in total:

• four stems from the first song
• four stems from the second song

Your mix plays four stem categories at one time:

• vocals
• drums
• bass
• instruments

STEM.FM does not play both drum stems at the same time.

When you switch drums to the second song, STEM.FM replaces the drums from the first song with the drums from the second song.

That is stem swapping.

When should I swap stems?

Swap stems when you want to test different combinations between two songs.

For example, you might use:

• vocals from the first song
• drums from the second song
• bass from the second song
• instruments from the first song

How do I swap stems?

   Open a session with two songs.

   Open the stem controls.

   Click the stem you want to swap.

   STEM.FM switches that stem to the other song.

   Click the same stem again to switch it back.

   Press play and listen to the mix.

   Repeat with vocals, drums, bass, or instruments.

How do I adjust stem volume?

To change a stem's volume, click and hold the stem control.

While holding, move your finger up or down on the trackpad.

• Move up to make the stem louder.
• Move down to make the stem quieter.

Use stem volume when you want to keep a stem in the mix, but change how loud it sounds.

For example, you might keep the vocals from the first song, but turn the vocals down.

This lets the drums from the second song come through more clearly.
